What's new

The Xpeng L05 will arrive in Europe as a roomy family SUV and will make its European debut at the Brussels Motor Show in 2027. It follows the L03 in the Chinese brand's rapid model rollout. The newcomer is aimed especially at families looking for more space and a more practical body style.

The car is a sister model to the L03 SUV coupe, which can already be ordered in Germany. In Europe, the L05 is therefore not presented as a replacement for the L03, but as a more practical addition with a more conventional SUV format. Xpeng says further details, pricing and the market launch timing will be announced during the Brussels presentation.

  • European debut: Brussels Motor Show.
  • Positioning: family SUV.
  • Model relationship: sister model to the L03.
  • Status in China: already sold as the Mona L05.

Specifications and technology

In China, the L05 measures 4.87 metres in length and has a 2.94-metre wheelbase, which points to generous passenger space. It is a five-door model, and Xpeng is placing particular emphasis on everyday family usability. With the rear seats folded, luggage capacity increases to more than 1,900 litres.

In its home market, the model is offered both with a fully electric drivetrain and as a range-extender version using an additional 1.5-litre petrol engine. The battery-electric versions use packs with 58 kWh or 71 kWh of capacity. Claimed range under the Chinese CLTC cycle is between 535 and 635 kilometres.

The electric motor drives the rear wheels and produces 183 kW, or 249 hp. The brand's statement focuses on combining intelligent functions, space and the flexibility families need in daily use. Markus Schrick, managing director for the Central Europe sales region, says the L05 shows how Xpeng views family mobility of the future.

Markets, prices and availability

The European premiere will take place at the Brussels Motor Show, where Xpeng plans to release the information most relevant to European buyers. That includes equipment details, prices and the timing of the market launch. The launch date is expected to follow soon after the unveiling, but no exact day has been announced.

In China, the model is already on sale under the Mona L05 name. Prices there start at the equivalent of around 17,000 euros. In Germany, the family SUV is unlikely to be available for less than 40,000 euros, while the final European price list is still to be published by the manufacturer.

The Brussels presentation will therefore matter not only as a debut, but also as the point at which the European offer should become clearer. For now, the L05 is known as a larger, more family-focused model alongside the L03. European homologation figures, version-by-version pricing and the exact start of deliveries have not yet been released.

Verdict

The Xpeng L05 looks set to become an important addition to the brand's European line-up because it brings the China-market Mona L05 concept into the family SUV segment. The key facts are its large body, 58 and 71 kWh batteries, rear-wheel drive and a CLTC range of up to 635 kilometres. Its position in Europe will depend on the prices and launch timing to be announced in Brussels.
