What's new
The next Peugeot E-208 is scheduled to arrive in 2027 as the first Peugeot based on the STLA One architecture. Peugeot chief executive Alain Favey said it will be the first of four Peugeot models on the platform and part of a plan for seven all-new models by 2030. Although the 208 remains the entry point to the range, this generation is set to become the brand's most technically loaded car.
The design direction blends references to the eighties Peugeot 205 with the proportions shown by the Polygon and E-T16 concepts. The E-T16 displayed at the Paris Motor Show was reportedly described as close to production, and removing the Group B-style rally additions should leave something very close to the new E-208. Design director Matthias Hossann said the concept reinterprets the lines of the future E-208 and turns heritage, power and sportiness into a design language.
Horizontal three-line light signatures are expected at the front and rear. Favey said this motif will appear on future Peugeots, as will the strong red horizontal rear lights. The link to the 205 comes through striped grille and tailgate themes, but the surfacing is cleaner and sharper than the original supermini.
Specifications and technology
Platform, electric hardware and cockpit
The car will use STLA One, the newest small-car architecture from Stellantis. Favey confirmed the launch version will be a BEV, while the platform uses cell-to-body construction, with the battery pack becoming part of the floor and the vehicle structure. Stellantis product planning chief Davide Mele said this layout is intended to cut cost, weight and complexity.
STLA One will be 800-volt capable, with the aim of delivering shorter charging times and a better real-world electric-car experience. In the E-T16 concept, the battery capacity is 85kWh and charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes 15 minutes. The platform can accommodate up to that 85kWh pack for a maximum range of around 300 miles, while smaller packs, potentially just under 40kWh, are planned for city-focused models.
The new E-208 will introduce Hypersquare steer-by-wire, removing the mechanical link between the steering control and the front wheels. Software will vary steering assistance according to speed and surroundings, from parking manoeuvres to motorway tracking. Removing the steering column, together with a new dashboard architecture, is also intended to improve cabin space.
STLA Brain will provide the electrical and software base. Stellantis technology chief Ned Curic described it as the company's new electronics and software platform, replacing many separate control units with one connected high-performance computing system. It increases processing power sixfold and bandwidth by a factor of 1,000, enabling faster responses, over-the-air upgrades and sensor-based driver assistance.
The STLA Smart Cockpit will replace twelve separate systems with one unified cockpit platform. Peugeot will be the first Stellantis brand to introduce it, using its own graphics, ambience, voice controls and features. The E-T16 showed a more performance-oriented infotainment layout on the same 21-inch screen used by the 3008 and 5008.

Versions, production and rivals
The market launch for the new E-208 is set for 2027. It will arrive first as an electric car, but Stellantis confirmed during its investor day that STLA One is also hybrid-compatible and optimised for each configuration. Favey said the new model will sit alongside the existing 208, which points to a later hybrid derivative.
The current 208 GTi will remain on sale while there is demand. Favey said the 2027 E-208 will attract a different kind of customer, while the GTi, with 276bhp, plays a separate role. The E-208 is expected to need a spread from 130bhp to 220bhp to match the Volkswagen ID. Polo and Cupra Raval line-ups.
- Peugeot plans seven all-new models by 2030.
- Four of them will be based on STLA One.
- The first will be the E-208 in 2027.
- The platform supports electric and hybrid configurations.
- Named rivals include the Renault 5, Cupra Raval and Volkswagen ID. Polo.
Production is expected to use Stellantis's Spanish manufacturing base. The Zaragoza plant that builds the current Corsa and E-208 is earmarked for the next-generation cars, while other STLA Small models are also set for the Vigo factory. The next Vauxhall Corsa will share the same underpinnings with the Peugeot.
The expected starting price is around £26,000. The exact launch day, full price list, production dimensions, final performance figures and official WLTP data for the production E-208 have not been given. What is clear is that the longer wheelbase should allow larger battery packs than today's 54kWh maximum.
Verdict
The new Peugeot E-208 is more than a generational replacement because it brings STLA One, steer-by-wire, a new cockpit and a battery-electric launch strategy into one small hatchback. If the production car keeps the main ideas previewed by the E-T16, it will become the first clear demonstration of how Stellantis wants its next small electric cars to feel.
