What's new
The production Genesis GV90 keeps the sliding rear-hinged doors, swiveling front seats and glass roof with its own airbag. Two years after the Neolun concept, Genesis has shown a full-size electric SUV for 2027 without dropping the show-car features that defined the prototype. The central talking point is the Neolun Arch Gate door system, offered on the Neolun trim.
The rear doors slide outward before rotating open, which explains why an earlier prototype was seen with its rear fender panel removed. The front and rear doors can open simultaneously and independently, with no required latching sequence. Genesis says no other production coach-door vehicle has used this arrangement.
The absence of a conventional B-pillar required a different body structure. Genesis claims the cabin frame is 50 percent thicker than that of conventional vehicles and matches the crash performance of B-pillared SUVs. Aluminum in the underbody is intended to offset some of the weight penalty, although this remains a three-row electric SUV with 24-inch wheels and a complex door mechanism.
Specifications and technology
The GV90 is a full-size luxury electric SUV riding on Genesis' dedicated eMP architecture. A 123.5-kWh battery feeds two electric motors producing a combined 657 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The driveline also includes electronic limited-slip differentials at both axles, multi-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|
| Body type | full-size electric SUV |
| Seats | seven in the range estimate configuration |
| Battery | 123.5 kWh |
| Power | 657 hp |
| Torque | 590 lb-ft |
| Range | estimated 310 miles for the seven-seat configuration |
| Platform | Genesis eMP |
The estimated range for the seven-seat configuration is 310 miles. Inside, there is no instrument cluster, digital or otherwise, because driver information is handled by a head-up display. The 23.6-inch central OLED screen rises by 3.5 inches when parked, turning into a widescreen media display.
Cabin and exterior details
The infotainment system runs Pleos Connect, Hyundai Group's latest Android Automotive-based software. Behind the steering wheel sits a rotating pylon that works as the gear selector. When the vehicle is off and empty, it rests at 12 o'clock; once the driver closes the door, it drops to 2 o'clock and becomes a shift stalk.
There is no power button. The glass roof on the Neolun Executive Suite uses electrochromic panels with adjustable opacity. The roof also contains an airbag designed to shield occupants from glass shards in a rollover, a feature driven by the engineering demands of the large glass panel.
- Sliding and rotating Neolun Arch Gate rear doors.
- Swiveling front seats.
- No traditional instrument cluster.
- 23.6-inch central OLED screen that rises when parked.
- Glass roof with electrochromic panels and an airbag.
- Wing Face Micro Lens Array double LED lightbars that serve as the headlights.
Outside, the production vehicle stays close to the Neolun concept. Side mirrors are the clearest concession to real-world regulations. The double LED strips at the front, called Wing Face Micro Lens Array by Genesis, serve as the headlights without separate projectors, while the body panels flow into one another without hard creases.
Markets, prices and availability
Genesis says the GV90 will arrive at dealers in 2027. The exact launch window, pricing and market-by-market details have not been announced. The information released so far names the Neolun trim with Neolun Arch Gate doors and the Neolun Executive Suite with the adjustable glass roof.
Interior color choices include green, indigo and purple alongside the expected caramel. The positioning targets buyers considering the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan, but the GV90 approaches luxury through an electric platform, a cockpit without a conventional gauge cluster and a different concept for cabin access. The final price will show how high Genesis intends to place this model in the luxury SUV field.
Verdict
The Genesis GV90 brings several concept-car elements into production rather than softening them for the showroom. Its significance rests on the Neolun Arch Gate doors, the reinforced structure without a traditional B-pillar, the strong electric driveline and a cabin layout that moves key driving information away from conventional gauges.
