What's new

The Kia K4 now gets a full-hybrid drivetrain that can be ordered in both the hatchback and the larger K4 Sportswagon. The new 1.6 GDI Hybrid delivers 154 hp, does without a plug and is rated at 5.2 liters of petrol per 100 km. This is the powertrain addition that had already been announced when the K4, the successor to the Ceed, was launched.

Until now, the K4 range consisted of petrol engines and a 48-volt mild-hybrid option. The new version adds a conventional hybrid setup aimed at reducing fuel use without any charging routine, cable or plug-in range discussion. Kia keeps the same two body styles: the shorter hatchback and the more practical Sportswagon estate.

The trim structure carries over from the existing range. Buyers can choose Core, Vision, Spirit and GT-Line, with the latter adding its own design details and the option of 18-inch wheels. The familiar cabin also remains, including an infotainment display measuring up to 12.3 inches, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Kia Connect services.

  • Core as the entry trim for the hybrid.
  • Vision as the trim used for the price comparison with the petrol 1.6 T-GDI.
  • Spirit as a higher equipment level.
  • GT-Line with separate styling details and available 18-inch wheels.

Specifications and technology

Under the bonnet, a 1.6-liter GDI petrol engine works together with an electric motor. Combined output is 154 hp, and gear changes are handled by a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Kia quotes the same acceleration figure for both body styles, with 0 to 100 km/h taking 10.4 seconds.

The top-speed difference between the hatchback and the wagon is minimal. The K4 reaches 174 km/h, while the K4 Sportswagon is rated at 173 km/h. Fuel consumption is the key figure here, because both hybrid variants are listed at 5.2 l/100 km, compared with 6.9 l/100 km for the 150-hp 1.6 T-GDI in the regular K4 and 7.1 l/100 km in the Sportswagon.

Technical data and practicality

The hybrid system does not change the packaging figures quoted by Kia. The hatchback is 4.44 meters long and offers 438 liters of luggage space. The Sportswagon is just under 4.70 meters long and provides 604 liters behind the rear seats. Wheelbase is 2.72 meters for both body styles.

Kia also gives towing figures for the new hybrids. Both can tow a braked trailer weighing up to 1,010 kg. By comparison, the 1.6 T-GDI Sportswagon can tow up to 1,410 kg, so the hybrid is suited to lighter trailers rather than a large caravan.

Markets, prices and availability

The K4 Hybrid starts at 33,590 euros, while the K4 Sportswagon Hybrid starts at 34,590 euros. Both models can be ordered now, and first deliveries are scheduled for December 2026. The existing petrol versions remain in the line-up, starting at 28,890 euros for the hatchback and 29,890 euros for the Sportswagon.

A direct comparison in Vision trim shows a 1,500-euro premium for the hybrid over the 150-hp 1.6 T-GDI petrol model. In that specification, the K4 Hybrid costs 35,790 euros, while the comparable T-GDI is priced at 34,290 euros. The Core hybrid trim lowers the entry point to 33,590 euros.

Equipment and range details

Equipment depends on trim, but the broader K4 feature list carries over. Available items include a head-up display, a Harman/Kardon sound system, ventilated seats and a digital vehicle key. In the Sportswagon, luggage space remains a central point, as the estate keeps 604 liters behind the rear bench.

The familiar petrol engines continue alongside the new hybrid, including the 150-hp 1.6 T-GDI. The hybrid costs more, but Kia calculates roughly 25 percent lower fuel consumption than the compared T-GDI versions. No further markets, dates beyond the first deliveries in December 2026, or additional hybrid engine variants are listed.

Verdict

The K4 Hybrid becomes the most frugal version in the described range while keeping the same boot capacities and the choice between hatchback and wagon. Its strongest case is the combination of 5.2 l/100 km, a clear but limited price premium over the 1.6 T-GDI, and two useful body styles.
