What's new

A pre-production 2027 BMW iX5 60 xDrive has appeared in Poland with Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue matte paint, 23-inch wheels and an Individual Vintage Coffee leather cabin. It is the most heavily specified fifth-generation X5 seen in public so far. The SUV was shown at a dealer before European customers can normally configure the electric variant.

The filmed car is not a regular customer unit, yet its equipment list shows how far BMW can push the new X5 at the top end of the range. The M Sport Package is treated as a starting point, while the matte Individual paint moves the exterior well beyond a typical dealer-lot specification. Blacked-out trim works with the Frozen Tanzanite Blue finish and the M-branded Polygon 1121 wheels.

The important news is not limited to a paint color or a trim badge. This example brings together exterior and cabin features that read like nearly every option box has been checked. The specification also uses details that normally help separate BMW's most expensive models from more common luxury SUV builds.

  • Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue matte paint,
  • M Polygon 1121 wheels measuring 23 inches, the largest factory alloys BMW currently sells,
  • Individual Vintage Coffee leather, a warm brown cabin finish set apart from common black and gray interiors,
  • an optional 14.6-inch passenger display next to the 17.9-inch main infotainment screen,
  • crystal glass switchgear, real slate trim on the center console and the Individual Clear and Bold package.

Specifications and technology

Cabin and controls

The interior is where this iX5 moves furthest away from a normal X5 configuration. Individual Vintage Coffee leather covers the cabin and gives it a warmer character than the black and gray layouts that dominate luxury SUV showrooms. Next to the 17.9-inch main infotainment screen sits an optional 14.6-inch front passenger display, creating a cockpit layout that mirrors the 7 Series setup.

There is an important difference compared with the facelifted 7 Series. In that car, the passenger display is standard and cannot be deleted. In the X5 it remains an option, and the Polish pre-production vehicle has it fitted alongside crystal glass controls and a thin layer of real slate applied to the lower section of the center console.

BMW has been keen to point out the use of actual stone as an interior trim element. For early X5 buyers, these finishes are due to be standard. Later in the year, BMW plans to make them optional, allowing customers to save money by leaving the Individual Clear and Bold package unticked.

Body, wheels and equipment

The footage also shows a new M steering wheel. It drops the controversial vertical spokes seen in recent BMW models in favor of a more conventional design. Because this is a European-market car, it uses the standard wheelbase, while a long-wheelbase version with extra rear legroom is heading to China soon.

Other visible equipment includes a 3D head-up display, a Bowers and Wilkins audio system and manual rear sunblinds. These are useful items, but in this build they sit behind the more attention-grabbing combination of paint, wheels, leather and stone trim. The 60 xDrive is presented as the electric version of the new X5.

Markets, prices and availability

Production and delivery timing

Production of the BMW iX5 60 xDrive is not scheduled to begin until December 2026. Customer deliveries are expected in early March 2027, so March is the clearest market-launch window given for the car. The European configurator is not due to offer the electric variant until the month following the public appearance of this Polish dealer car.

That timing means the dealer is displaying a vehicle that most buyers cannot yet order. The specification also combines choices that many customers are unlikely to select together: matte Individual paint, the largest wheels, real stone trim and the passenger screen. Prices were not stated, and neither were figures for power, range, battery capacity, charging, acceleration or top speed.

Position in the range

BMW is using this specification to show the new X5 at its ceiling rather than its volume-selling form. It creates online attention and brings people into showrooms, but the bulk of iX5 models leaving Spartanburg are expected to be more conventional. The text points to ordinary colors, smaller wheels and the absence of the passenger display as more likely choices for many cars.

There is also a larger electric SUV in BMW's own plan. The iX7 has already been confirmed for next year, which means the iX5 may soon be squeezed from above in the lineup. The Polish car still matters because it shows how BMW wants the electric X5 to combine battery power with the highest-end finishes available on the fifth-generation X5.

Verdict

This 2027 BMW iX5 60 xDrive is less a normal dealer specification and more a display of almost everything BMW can fit to the electric X5. Matte paint, 23-inch wheels, brown leather, two large screens and real slate trim set the tone before production starts in December and before the first customer cars arrive in March.
