What's new

The Audi A2 e-tron is set to join the range as a compact electric car with rear-wheel drive, a range of up to 646 km WLTP and energy consumption of 12.8 kWh/100 km in the Efficiency version. This is not presented as a simple city add-on to the line-up, but as a small Audi with several battery options, DC fast charging and equipment usually associated with larger models.

Production is planned in Ingolstadt on the same line that builds the A3. That decision places the A2 e-tron within Audi's regular manufacturing footprint rather than treating it as a side project. The car combines compact dimensions with numbers that matter in an electric model: long range, strong motor options and a cabin designed around everyday usability.

The key engineering choice is rear-wheel drive across the range. In a small Audi, that gives the car a different brief from many higher-riding crossovers that rely on all-wheel drive and bigger bodies. Here the emphasis is on efficiency, aerodynamics and practical use of space.

Specifications and technology

The Efficiency version is rated at 12.8 kWh/100 km, a figure Audi describes as the lowest energy consumption yet for one of its series-production models. The drag coefficient is 0.24. It is helped by an actively controlled air intake, an almost fully covered underbody and wheels designed specifically for this model.

The largest battery has 84 kWh gross, and with it the A2 e-tron is rated at up to 646 km on the WLTP cycle. Two smaller batteries are also planned, with capacities of 52 and 61 kWh. The smaller packs use LFP cells, while the largest battery uses NMC chemistry.

  • Battery options: 52 kWh, 61 kWh and 84 kWh gross.
  • Cell chemistry: LFP for the smaller batteries, NMC for the largest pack.
  • Maximum DC charging power: 183 kW.
  • Charging from 10 to 80 percent: 24-29 minutes, depending on version.

Four power versions are planned. The entry model will deliver 125 kW, while the strongest version reaches 240 kW and 545 Nm. Drive comes from permanent-magnet synchronous motors. Audi also uses silicon-carbide power electronics, intended to reduce energy losses.

Cabin and energy functions

The cabin uses Softwrap over a large part of the interior and a panoramic MMI layout. The driver gets an 11.9-inch display, joined by a curved 12.8-inch touchscreen. A more practical feature is the standard Fidlock system, a magnetic mounting setup for holders and organisers.

The A2 e-tron will support Vehicle-to-Load, allowing external devices to draw power from the traction battery. Vehicle-to-Home is also planned, letting the car feed energy back into a domestic installation. That function will initially be available in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and requires a suitable DC wallbox.

Everyday usability is supported by a 396-litre boot. Folding the rear bench increases capacity to 1336 litres. Stronger versions also add a 13-litre frunk, giving the car a small but useful extra storage area at the front.

Markets, prices and availability

Orders for the Audi A2 e-tron are due to open in autumn 2026, with the first customer cars scheduled for December. The price list is expected together with the start of ordering. Price is therefore the main missing piece, along with the detailed equipment split between versions.

The driver assistance package is already broad in standard form. The listed standard equipment includes emergency braking assist, obstacle avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera and park assist plus. Optional items include 360-degree cameras, a more capable parking system and a route memory function.

  • Standard: emergency braking assist, obstacle avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control, reversing camera, park assist plus.
  • Options: 360-degree cameras, a more capable parking system, route memory function.
  • Energy functions: Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Home in selected markets.

The route memory function is designed to teach the car a specific manoeuvre, for example in a difficult garage, and then repeat it. That fits the practical focus of the model, as do the magnetic interior mounts and the ability to power external equipment.

Verdict

The Audi A2 e-tron is built around firm numbers: up to 646 km of range, 12.8 kWh/100 km, rear-wheel drive and DC charging at up to 183 kW. If pricing does not undermine those figures, it could become a strong entry point into Audi's electric range.
