What's new

The 212 3 Door has reached the German market after its official presentation at the Paris Motor Show 2026, bringing a shorter three-door version to the off-road line-up. The main change compared with the five-door version is the more compact body, with short overhangs, a 2,570 mm wheelbase and an overall length of 4,416 mm. The car keeps the traditional off-roader look, including upright surfaces, round headlights and an externally mounted spare wheel.

The new version seats four people and is positioned as a more manoeuvrable alternative to the longer five-door model in the same range. A removable hardtop is one of its defining features, as it allows the closed vehicle to be turned into an open off-roader in a short time. The format is therefore not only shorter, but also more flexible in the way the body can be used.

Thomas Schelsky from importer Indimo says the 3 Door expands the range with an independent alternative to the five-door model. According to him, it is aimed at people who prefer a shorter body while still wanting traditional off-road hardware. The removable roof adds another use case to the existing offer.

Specifications and technology

Two engines are available, and both are paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 218 hp and 380 Nm of torque. The 2.0-litre turbodiesel delivers 152 hp and 410 Nm, giving the diesel version the higher torque figure.

  • 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine: 218 hp, 380 Nm, ZF automatic, priced from 38,995 euros.
  • 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine: 152 hp, 410 Nm, ZF automatic, priced from 41,850 euros.
  • Drivetrain: selectable four-wheel drive with low-range gearing.
  • Differential locks: front and rear axle.

The construction remains focused on off-road use. Under the bodywork, the vehicle uses a ladder frame and two rigid axles, a layout chosen for demanding terrain rather than a road-biased crossover character. Selectable four-wheel drive, low-range gearing and differential locks on both axles are intended to maintain traction on loose and uneven surfaces.

Ground clearance is 226 mm, and difficult passages are supported by a crawl mode and hill descent control. The 360-degree camera system can project a virtual underbody view onto the infotainment display, helping the driver spot hidden obstacles earlier. The cabin has also been designed for variable use, as the rear seats can be folded, tipped up or removed completely to create space for luggage and equipment.

Markets, prices and availability

After the Paris presentation, the vehicle is now available to order in Germany. Prices start at 38,995 euros for the petrol version and at 41,850 euros for the diesel. Sales and service in the German market are handled by Indimo Automotive GmbH, based in Landstuhl in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Both engine variants are delivered with the same comfort equipment. Standard specification includes two-zone automatic climate control, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with heating and ventilation, a heated steering wheel and a 12.3-inch infotainment display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also included.

  • Standard equipment: two-zone automatic climate control.
  • Driver’s seat: electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated.
  • Comfort: heated steering wheel.
  • Infotainment: 12.3-inch display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • Driver assistance: adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning.

The start of sales for the three-door model also confirms a change in how the 212 name is used. The designation, previously closely linked with BAW, or Beijing Automotive Works, now stands as a separate brand identity in the segment of purist off-road vehicles. Vehicle logistics cover the order in China, sea transport, customs handling and delivery to authorised dealers, with Road Star Fahrzeugtransporte and CCS Car Container Shipping involved in the process.

The styling clearly refers to classic off-road vehicles, and the vehicle’s similarity to models such as the Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Defender is mentioned. This is not a comparison test, but a report on the German market launch of one specific three-door version. Acceleration, top speed, fuel consumption and boot capacity are not stated.

Verdict

The 212 3 Door combines a shorter body, a removable roof and hardware built around a frame, rigid axles, low-range gearing and locks on both axles. It is aimed at drivers who want traditional off-road construction while still getting standard equipment such as dual-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch screen and assistance systems for paved roads.
