What's new

The BMW iX4 M60 has been revealed alongside the wider Neue Klasse rollout as an electric coupe-SUV with M Performance hardware. It arrives after the end of the i4 M60, but it is not a low-slung four-door liftback. Its defining change is the sloped fastback body, which cuts the drag coefficient from 0.24 in the iX3 M60 to 0.23.

Mechanically, the closest relative is the iX3 M60, because the powertrain, battery and main chassis equipment are effectively shared. The body is the separator, and that body gives the iX4 M60 an extra 15 miles of WLTP range over the boxier iX3 M60. The trade-off is also stated plainly: less rear headroom and less cargo space.

  • coupe-SUV body with a fastback roofline,
  • near-clone mechanical package compared with the BMW iX3 M60,
  • no next-generation BMW i4 Gran Coupe,
  • the new i3 sedan takes over that role in the range,
  • electric BMW liftgate choices in this segment become iX4 or the expected i3 Touring.

Specifications and technology

The drivetrain uses two electric motors, one on each axle, giving the car all-wheel drive. Output is 603 hp, while torque is 645 lb-ft. The sprint to 62 mph takes 3.9 seconds, placing the iX4 M60 among BMW’s quick electric crossovers.

The battery has 108.7 kWh of usable capacity. WLTP range is quoted at 483 miles, which is 15 miles more than the iX3 M60. DC fast charging peaks at 400 kW, and BMW says 224 miles of range can be added in ten minutes under ideal conditions.

Chassis and M Performance details

The M Performance hardware includes adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering, M Sport brakes and an electronically controlled M Sport differential. A Boost Mode button sits on the steering wheel, and the car also gets M-specific drive modes. This is the same core hardware package described for the iX3 M60.

The visual equipment list is just as specific. It includes yellow accent lights, illuminated kidney grille elements with M-colored detailing, an illuminated M logo, mirror caps with the tricolor stripe, 21-inch wheels as standard and optional 22-inch wheels. At the rear, there is a black diffuser and an M60 badge.

Markets, prices and availability

European orders open in January 2027. U.S. availability is expected several months later, but no exact U.S. launch date is given. Pricing, EPA range figures and a broader trim structure beyond the M60 are not provided.

The range context matters because BMW has made clear that there will be no next-generation i4 Gran Coupe. The new i3 sedan replaces it, while buyers wanting an electric BMW with a liftgate in this segment are left with the iX4 or the i3 Touring expected next year. The text also says sources near Munich point to an electric M3 Touring, designated ZA1, as part of a broader M electrification push.

Range strategy

BMW is consolidating its electric portfolio around the Neue Klasse platform and its modular architecture. The formula described is one powertrain, several body styles and reduced engineering overhead. The iX4 exists because the platform makes it cheaper to build, while the coupe-SUV segment continues to grow.

EPA range has not been released. The text expects a cut of at least 10 percent from the WLTP figure, which would put the iX4 M60 at about 430 miles on the U.S. cycle. That remains an estimate, not an official homologation number.

Verdict

The BMW iX4 M60 combines strong output, a large usable battery and very fast DC charging with a body that trades some practicality for lower drag. It is not a direct continuation of the i4 M60’s shape, but it shows where BMW is steering its electric performance range on Neue Klasse.

Frequently asked questions

When is the BMW iX4 M60 premiere or reveal?

On CarsUpcoming, the BMW iX4 M60 premiere is listed for January 2027. The exact day has not been specified because the calendar entry is month-precision.

When will the BMW iX4 M60 go on sale in the UK?

European orders are due to open in January 2027. A specific UK launch date has not been announced yet.

How much will the BMW iX4 M60 cost?

BMW has not announced pricing for the BMW iX4 M60 in the UK or any other market. Pricing, EPA range figures and a broader trim structure beyond the M60 have not been provided.

Should I wait for the BMW iX4 M60 or buy the current model now?

Waiting makes sense if you want the new electric coupe-SUV body, all-wheel drive, 603 hp, a 108.7 kWh battery, 483 miles of WLTP range and 400 kW DC charging. It is not a direct continuation of the low-slung i4 M60 shape, and with pricing and exact local availability still unannounced, buying an available current car may be more practical if you need one sooner.

What range does the BMW iX4 M60 have?

The BMW iX4 M60 is quoted at 483 miles of WLTP range. An official EPA range figure has not been released.
