What's new

The petrol Toyota Aygo X with a 1.0-litre engine is being replaced by a version using the 1.5 Hybrid Dynamic Force system and an e-CVT transmission. This is the main change for the smallest model in Toyota's European range, because the hybrid drive already known from the Yaris and Yaris Cross is now used in the Aygo X. Toyota quotes average fuel consumption of 3.7-3.9 l/100 km.

The hybrid version has been produced since November at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic in Kolin. The complete hybrid drive for the model is made in Poland at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland. The Polish plants produce both the 1.5-litre TNGA engine and the hybrid transmission with MG1 and MG2 electric motors.

The update is not limited to the powertrain. The front of the car has been redesigned, and buyers can choose two-tone body paint with a contrasting black roof and black sills. The range includes a total of 11 colour versions, as well as new 17- and 18-inch wheel designs.

  • a new 1.5 Hybrid Dynamic Force system replacing the 1.0-litre petrol engine,
  • e-CVT transmission,
  • redesigned front end,
  • optional two-tone paint with black roof and sills,
  • 11 colour versions and new 17- and 18-inch wheels.

Specifications and technology

Powertrain, performance and usability

The new powertrain delivers 44 hp more than the previous version and reaches 116 hp. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 9.2 seconds, putting the hybrid well above the earlier variant with the one-litre petrol engine. The e-CVT transmission forms part of the same hybrid concept Toyota uses in the Yaris and Yaris Cross.

City-focused usability remains part of the Aygo X package. The turning radius is 4.7 m, while the luggage compartment offers 231 l. Inside, Toyota has fitted a new climate-control panel, and an inductive charger is available as an option.

The Active trim comes as standard with 17-inch steel wheels, automatic air conditioning, a steering wheel trimmed in synthetic leather, Toyota Touch 3 multimedia with a 9-inch colour screen and a reversing camera with static guide lines. The Toyota T-MATE safety and driver-assistance package includes an upgraded pre-collision system, intelligent adaptive cruise control and lane tracing assist. The Comfort version adds items including 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats and luggage-area lighting.

Markets, prices and availability

Presales, trims and packages

Presale prices start at 82,900 zł for the Active version. The Comfort trim has been priced at 85,900 zł, while Style costs 92,800 zł. The Toyota Yaris Hybrid with the same power unit, named as a rival within Toyota's hybrid-car segment, costs 100,900 zł.

During the first six weeks of presales, customers ordered 486 cars. These orders were placed without earlier test drives, based only on photographs and specifications. The version most often chosen by customers was Comfort.

The exact market-debut day is not stated, and neither is a detailed timetable for the first customer handovers.

Verdict

The Aygo X Hybrid changes the smallest Toyota chiefly by replacing the 1.0-litre engine with a 116 hp hybrid system. The 486 orders taken in the first six weeks show that customers responded before test drives began, while the 82,900 zł starting price and the Polish-built hybrid components are central parts of the story.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Toyota Aygo X premiere or reveal?

On the CarsUpcoming calendar, the Toyota Aygo X premiere is listed for November 2023; the exact day is not specified.

When will the Toyota Aygo X go on sale in the UK?

A UK on-sale date has not been announced. The available sales information concerns presales in Poland, with no detailed timetable for first customer handovers.

How much will the Toyota Aygo X cost?

The announced presale prices apply to Poland, not the UK: Active starts at 82,900 zł, Comfort costs 85,900 zł, and Style costs 92,800 zł. UK pricing has not been announced.

Should I wait for the Toyota Aygo X or buy the current model now?

Waiting gets you the new 1.5 Hybrid Dynamic Force system with 116 hp, an e-CVT, claimed average fuel consumption of 3.7–3.9 l/100 km, and a redesigned front end. The outgoing 1.0-litre petrol model may be available sooner or potentially cheaper, but it has the older, less powerful powertrain.

How powerful is the Toyota Aygo X Hybrid?

The Toyota Aygo X Hybrid has 116 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds. It uses a 1.5 Hybrid Dynamic Force system with an e-CVT transmission.
