What's new
The Volkswagen ID. Polo is entering the range as a fully electric compact model with three power outputs and a driving range of up to 454 km WLTP. It uses a new front-wheel-drive powertrain and comes with DC fast charging as standard. It is also the first production Volkswagen to fully use the “Pure Positive” design language created by chief designer Andreas Mindt.
The body keeps compact proportions while referring to Volkswagen history through a C-pillar inspired by the first-generation Golf. The car is based on the MEB+ platform, which also brings a larger boot. Luggage capacity has risen by 25 percent, from 351 to 441 litres, and reaches 1,240 litres when the rear seat backrests are folded.
The cabin introduces a new cockpit layout with a digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment display. The Digital Cockpit has a 10-inch screen and is positioned in the driver’s line of sight. The central Innovision infotainment screen measures 13 inches, while the “retro display” function brings graphics inspired by the first Golf into the digital instruments.
Specifications and technology
Powertrain, batteries and charging
The powertrain line-up consists of three outputs, all using front-wheel drive. Volkswagen has prepared two net battery capacities, depending on the motor version. The lower-output versions use LFP battery chemistry, while the most powerful version uses an NMC battery.
- 116 hp (85 kW) with a 37 kWh net LFP battery.
- 135 hp (99 kW) with a 37 kWh net LFP battery.
- 211 hp (155 kW) with a 52 kWh net NMC battery.
The 116 hp and 135 hp versions offer up to 329 km WLTP and charge from 10 to 80 percent in about 23 minutes at DC fast chargers. The most powerful version has a 52 kWh net battery, a range of up to 454 km WLTP and charges from 10 to 80 percent in about 24 minutes. The Trend trim supports 90 kW DC fast charging as standard.

The equipment also includes driver assistance functions aimed at everyday use. The optional next generation of Travel Assist supports longitudinal and lateral control and reacts to traffic lights within system limits. One-pedal driving is standard, allowing the driver to reduce speed mainly by using the accelerator pedal.
The ID. Polo can supply external devices with up to 3.6 kW, for example electric bicycles or outdoor equipment. Power is available through a 230 V socket in the cabin and, with a separate adapter, through the mode 3 charging connection. Options include a 425 W Harman Kardon audio system, ten speakers, a subwoofer, a panoramic glass roof and a pneumatic massage function in 12-way electrically adjustable front seats.

Polo are the Peugeot E-208, Renault 5 E-Tech and Fiat Grande Panda.
Verdict
The Volkswagen ID. Polo combines compact exterior dimensions with a larger boot than the conventional Polo and up to 454 km WLTP in its strongest version. For Polish buyers, the key point is the start of pre-sales at the beginning of May, initially only with the 211 hp powertrain.
