What's new

The Nissan Aura NISMO RS has been presented as a hot hatch concept derived from the Aura NISMO. Its key change is the adoption of an e-POWER drivetrain taken from the Nissan X-Trail NISMO, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged combustion engine with two electric motors. In this specification, the project goes beyond body add-ons, because propulsion is handled through separate electric motors at the front and rear.

The bodywork has been given much wider wheel arches, extended by 145 mm. The suspension has been lowered by 20 mm, a change intended to lower the centre of gravity and give the car a more planted stance. The Dark Matte NISMO Stealth Gray paint ties together the body panels and NISMO details without adding another colour theme beyond the red accents used in the aero parts.

Specifications and technology

The e-POWER system uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged combustion engine carrying the KR15DDT code. The front electric motor produces 150 kW, or 204 hp, and 330 Nm of torque. The rear electric motor is rated at 100 kW, or 136 hp, and 195 Nm, so both axles play an active role in moving the concept.

The chassis and aerodynamic changes are described through individual components rather than a generic styling package. The 145 mm wider arches work with the 20 mm lower suspension to support a lower centre of gravity. The aerodynamic package was shaped to increase downforce and reduce air resistance.

  • front spoiler,
  • side sill extensions,
  • rear diffuser with red NISMO accents,
  • front fenders optimised for airflow,
  • side aerodynamic elements guiding the air stream,
  • specially designed rear spoiler.

Markets, prices and availability

Nissan describes the Aura NISMO RS as a concept and says it plans further refinement and optimisation with potential racing applications in mind. No production debut date, sales market or price has been given. There are also no stated trim levels, performance figures, driving range figures or confirmed plans to place the car in the regular line-up.

In its current form, the project acts as a technical and visual development of the Aura NISMO. The e-POWER system from the X-Trail NISMO, the widened body and the extensive aero package define the direction of the work, but Nissan has not confirmed series production. The clearest statement concerns continued development of the concept for possible track use.

Verdict

The Aura NISMO RS pairs a compact hot hatch body with an e-POWER system using two electric motors and a 1.5-litre turbo engine as part of the drivetrain. The numbers carry the message: 204 hp at the front, 136 hp at the rear, wider arches and a lowered suspension. It remains a concept, but the scale of the changes shows that NISMO is treating it as more than a simple styling exercise.
