What's new
The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio is already undergoing intensive testing on the ice of a frozen lake in northern Sweden, and its debut is expected in 2025. The prototype remains heavily camouflaged, but its outline does not suggest a change of basic concept. It is still set to be an SUV, while a larger vehicle in the roughly five-metre class with a likely coupe-like rear section is expected.
The current Stelvio generation, introduced in 2017, is due to leave production later this year. Its successor will keep the Stelvio name, but it will move to a different technical base and will be prepared primarily for electric drive. Alfa Romeo will not limit the range to battery-electric versions only, as company officials have already indicated that combustion-engine variants will also be offered.
Specifications and technology
The new Stelvio will be based on the STLA Large platform. This multi-energy architecture was developed mainly as a basis for future upper-class electric cars, but it does not exclude combustion engines. In practice, that means one model can support several drivetrain types without switching to a separate model line or a different name.
The electric Stelvio variants are expected to have strong technical similarities with the Jeep Wagoneer S, which was presented in 2024 as one of the first models on the STLA Large platform. The Wagoneer S uses two electric motors with a combined output of 600 hp and torque of more than 800 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 96 km/h in 3.4 seconds, while a 100 kWh battery pack in the vehicle floor is intended to allow a range of around 500 km.
