What's new

The 2027 Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door drops the hand-built V8 and becomes an electric flagship sedan. It uses three axial-flux motors, a 106-kWh battery and up to 1,153 hp. The change replaces the twin-turbo soundtrack that defined the car with a battery-electric drivetrain.

The GT63 version delivers figures usually associated with hypercars, yet it remains a four-door sedan. The GT55 is described as the entry version, but its output is still far beyond ordinary performance sedans. Both trims are electronically limited to 186 mph.

The exterior takes much of its direction from the AMG GT XX concept. The roofline is dramatically sloped and the drag coefficient is 0.22. Active aerodynamics include a rear spoiler that deploys with speed and an extending rear diffuser.

Inside, Mercedes introduces an infotainment layout reserved for this model. The driver display is angled, the air vents are integrated into the dashboard and physical controls are sparse. Rotary drive-mode dials on the center console remain, which keeps one familiar AMG control point in the cabin.

Specifications and technology

Motors, battery and charging

The drivetrain uses two motors on the rear axle and one on the front axle, creating rear-biased all-wheel drive. The battery cells are individually cooled and more densely packed than in earlier Mercedes EV architecture. AMG is presenting this as a purpose-built performance model rather than a compliance exercise.

  • GT63: 1,153 hp, 1,475 lb-ft and 0-60 mph in 2.0 seconds.
  • GT55: 805 hp, 1,328 lb-ft and 0-60 mph in 2.4 seconds.
  • Both trims: 186 mph electronically limited top speed.
  • WLTP range: 435 miles, with an expected EPA result north of 340 miles.
  • DC charging: 600 kW capability and 286 miles added in 10 minutes.

Mercedes says the 600-kW charging capability can add 286 miles of range in 10 minutes. The same architecture powered the AMG GT XX concept through a 3,404-mile endurance run in 24 hours. Charging speed is therefore presented as a core part of the car, not merely a supporting number.

In Sport+ mode, the car plays a synthesized V8 soundtrack through the cabin speakers. The system simulates everything from idle burble to full-throttle bellow. That directly addresses the absence of the engine that helped build AMG's identity for decades.

Markets, prices and availability

Deliveries and positioning

Deliveries are expected by late 2026. Mercedes has not released exact pricing, market details or a precise public debut date. The price is expected to climb over the outgoing model, whose most potent version already started above $180,000.

The text says Mercedes expects pricing in the low six figures, but no official figure has been announced. Rear seats are present, although legroom is not described as a strength. The fold-down center section is only a trunk pass-through and has no cupholders or storage.

A small frunk is now included, measuring 2.1 cubic feet. That is enough for a charging cable and little else. The Sky Control panoramic roof embeds LEDs that project the AMG logo overhead, a detail designed to be noticed at night.

Verdict

The electric AMG GT 4-Door keeps the brand's focus on speed while replacing the V8 with three axial-flux motors. Its numbers surpass the old V8 by a wide margin, but the simulated soundtrack shows how much of the former mechanical identity now has to be recreated through speakers.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door premiere or reveal?

In the CarsUpcoming calendar, the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door premiere is listed for 20 May 2026. Mercedes has not announced a separate precise public debut date.

When will the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door go on sale in the UK?

Mercedes has not announced a UK on-sale date for the AMG GT 4-Door. Deliveries are expected by late 2026, but no UK-specific launch timing has been confirmed.

How much will the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door cost?

The official price of the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door has not been announced. Mercedes expects pricing in the “low six figures”, with no currency or market specified; the most powerful outgoing model started above $180,000, but the market for that figure is not stated.

Should I wait for the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door or buy the current model now?

Waiting gets you the new electric powertrain, three axial-flux motors, up to 1,153 hp, a 106 kWh battery, 435 miles of WLTP range and 600 kW DC charging. The current model keeps the V8 character and may be available sooner or for less, so the practical choice depends on whether you prefer the new EV technology or the existing AMG formula.

What is the range of the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door?

The Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door has a WLTP range of 435 miles. An EPA result north of 340 miles is expected, but that figure is not yet official.
